How to request a Merchant Center review without wasting your attempts

Checked against Google Merchant Center Help on October 28, 2026 · By the Unflagged team · Not affiliated with Google

Short answer. Google limits how often you can ask for a Merchant Center review. After a failed request, a waiting period can start, and it can grow after each failure. So fix every issue first, complete identity verification, check the live store, then send one review request. Choose "I disagree" only if Google is wrong, because you may have only one chance to disagree.

The review button looks harmless, but it isn't. Each failed request can push your next chance further away. You may also get only one opportunity to tell Google it got something wrong. This guide explains how reviews work today, what order to fix things in and what to write.

How a review request works

Merchant Center gives you two options for each issue (Request a review of your issues):

Then you click Request review.

Where to find these options:

The status goes from Review requested to Under review. After that, the issue either clears or shows Review not approved.

How long it takes

Google's general page says reviews can take up to 7 business days. Its page for Shopify merchants says 3 to 7 business days. You get an email when the review finishes. After a price fix, a product-level website check can take up to 12 hours. You can't send another request during that time (Mismatched product price).

Prerequisites

The review button can stay inactive until you complete identity verification. Your product data source also needs at least one product. Look for a verification request in the Needs attention tab before you do anything else.

The rules that cost you attempts

You may get one chance to disagree

Google is careful with its wording here. You "may only have one chance to disagree" with an issue. Treat "I disagree" as a one-shot option. Use it only when you have evidence that the finding is wrong, not after you've just made changes. If you changed your site, the honest choice is "I fixed the issue".

Cooldowns start, then grow

If issues remain at your second review attempt, a one-week cooldown may begin. Google ties this to the point where you've used your option to disagree and already attempted a fix. During a cooldown the button is greyed out and the account stays suspended. Each failed review can make the cooldown longer, and Google says its support team can't shorten it. The Needs attention tab shows when the button will come back.

Some issue-specific pages give their own timings. For example, Google's page on inaccurate price status describes a 7-business-day cooldown after a failed review of an account under preemptive item disapproval.

Warning periods give you one courtesy review

If you get a warning with a 7- or 28-day deadline, you can request one courtesy review during that window. If you remove the violating products before the deadline, you don't need to request anything. Google reviews the account when the period ends.

Fix in this order before you click

An account-level review covers every issue for that country at once. So fix everything, not just the item you suspect. A practical order:

  1. Identity verification. Complete it if requested, using documents that match your account data.
  2. Business information. Use the same legal name, address, phone and email on your site and in Settings > Business info.
  3. Policies. Set up return and refund, shipping, privacy and terms in Shopify under Settings > Policies. Link them in the footer. Make sure they match the return policy in Merchant Center.
  4. Delivery promises. State your shipping origin and delivery times you can meet.
  5. Prices and availability. Your product data, product pages and checkout should show the same numbers.
  6. Product content. Remove claims you can't prove, branding that isn't yours and placeholder text.
  7. Products you can't defend. Remove them. Google warns that failed bulk appeals can limit future appeals (Misrepresentation policy).
  8. Time to recrawl. Once a review is approved, Google says products can start showing again within about 24 hours (Request a review).

For Misrepresentation and website transparency suspensions, Google's own list is short. Complete identity verification. Make your business details visible and consistent. Make your return and shipping policies functional and clear. Make sure prices and availability match your website.

What to write

Sometimes there's no text field at all. When there is one, keep it short and factual. Reviewers check your site, so a plea won't help.

A good note:

Example:

We reviewed the full site against the Misrepresentation policy. Changes: (1) legal company name, address and phone are now identical on /pages/contact, in the footer and in Merchant Center business info; (2) return policy published at /policies/refund-policy and declared in Merchant Center with the same return window; (3) product pages and /policies/shipping-policy now state where orders ship from and the delivery time; (4) removed [number] products with claims we could not substantiate. Business registration document uploaded.

If you choose "I disagree", explain exactly why the finding is wrong and attach proof. That could be registration documents, supplier agreements or brand authorisation. Google lists contracts, written agreements and a link to a credible news article as useful evidence (Misrepresentation, free listings).
