Suspended right before Black Friday: what to do in the first 48 hours

Checked against Google Merchant Center Help on October 28, 2026 · By the Unflagged team · Not affiliated with Google

Short answer. Don't send a review request in a panic. First work out what you have: an account-level or product-level issue, a warning or a suspension, and which policy. Fix product-level price mismatches right away, since sales often cause them. For account-level misrepresentation, fix everything before one review, because a failed review can lengthen the wait. Keep selling by email and other channels, never through a new Merchant Center account.

Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026; Cyber Monday is 30 November. If your Shopping ads or free listings just stopped, this is when rushed moves cost the most time.

Know the clock first

By our arithmetic, not a Google deadline, a review sent in the week of 16 November may not finish before Black Friday. A failed review plus a cooldown costs far more than two extra days of fixing.

The 48-hour triage checklist

  1. Confirm it's Merchant Center. Open Products > Needs attention. If products are approved and no account issue shows, look at Google Ads instead: billing, budgets, campaign status. Check: you can name the screen that shows the problem.
  2. Account-level or product-level? Account-level issues affect all your products and appear in a banner at the top of the account. Product-level issues affect only the listed products (Issues in Merchant Center). Check: you know whether a banner exists and how many products are disapproved.
  3. Warning or suspension? Products with a warning "will continue to show across Google", though performance may be limited. A suspension disables them (12153802). Warnings come with a 7- or 28-day deadline. Check: the deadline date is written down.
  4. Which policy? Copy the exact issue name. "Mismatched product price" is a data fix. "Misrepresentation" means an account review. Its dishonest-pricing section can lead to suspension without warning; unavailable offers get at least 7 days' warning (Misrepresentation). Check: you have a dated screenshot of the issue name.
  5. Fix product-level price issues now. Google lists the classic sale problem: a sale "started or ended but the price in the feed hasn't been updated" (Inaccurate price status). Correct the price in Shopify, let it sync, then use Fix > Request website check. That check can take up to 12 hours, and you can't send another meanwhile (Mismatched product price). Check: in a private window, the page price equals the Merchant Center price for that country.
  6. Audit your sale setup. Go through the pitfalls below on every discounted product, not just the flagged one. Check: every compare-at price on the site is one you actually charged.
  7. For account-level misrepresentation, fix everything first. The review "will apply to all issues for the country" (13585221). Align business details, policies, delivery promises and prices. Complete identity verification if asked; the button can stay inactive until you do. Check: a list of every change with its URL, ready for your review note.
  8. Then send one review. Choose "I fixed the issue". You "may only have one chance to disagree", so keep that for a real error. From Shopify: Sales channels > Google & YouTube > Settings > Request re-review (13693195). During a warning, removing the violating products clears it (6150127). Check: the review button is active and no cooldown date shows.

Promotion pitfalls

Compare-at prices you never charged. In Shopify, the compare-at price is the "original" price shown next to your sale price (Setting sale prices). If nobody ever paid it, it creates "a false or misleading impression of the cost" (6150127). To clear many: Products, select them, Bulk edit, add compare-at price under Columns, empty it, Save (Bulk editing).

Sale price annotation rules. Google shows a struck original price only under conditions (About sale price annotations). For US Shopping ads, the base price must have been charged 5 days in the past 30 or 15 in the past 200; most other listed countries need 30 in the past 200. The discount must be over 5% and under 90%. These are display conditions, not a suspension rule, but they're a fair test of whether your "original" price is real.

Dates and time zones. If a feed app sends sale_price, add sale_price_effective_date with a time zone; otherwise Google defaults to UTC (sale_price_effective_date). Without dates, the sale price applies immediately (sale_price). With the Google & YouTube app, sales come from Shopify's price fields, and Google says prices update within 24 hours (Sync sale price and promotions from Shopify). Plan for that lag around midnight launches.

Several prices on one page. Make the lowest price the most prominent and submit it as the sale price (9773429). With multiple strikethrough prices, don't turn on automatic price updates in Products > Automations (Automatic item updates).

Countdown timers that restart. Google's policy doesn't name timers. We flag them anyway: a deadline that resets on reload is a false claim about the offer (our reading, not a Google rule). Switch the embed off in Online Store > Edit theme > App embeds (Extend your theme with apps).

"Up to X% off". Merchant Center Promotions reject vague "up to" discounts unless the floor is stated; standalone ceilings pass only for event promotions. Discounts must not already be reflected on the landing page (Get started with Promotions). On your own banners, a headline only one product reaches is a claim we'd change.

Selling in France? Every announced reduction must state the lowest price you charged in the 30 days before the promotion (Code de la consommation, article L112-1-1). The DGCCRF says it checks national operations such as Black Friday (Annonces de réduction de prix). The EU Court of Justice ruled the percentage is calculated on that price (press release 152/24). A price you raised in early November can't serve as the reference.

What not to do

Keep selling meanwhile

None of this needs a second store, domain or Merchant Center account.
